The Alconbury Weald team has worked in partnership with the local authority and Huntingdon-based Dews Coaches to launch a new bus service, the AW1.
The service has been carefully planned to increase connectivity between local communities and provide additional sustainable transport links to the wider area and the route timetable has been planned to coincide with connecting trains at Huntingdon Rail Station where possible.
Launched in January 2022, the new service initially used a coach from Huntingdon-based Dews’ existing fleet, but this was replaced by a specially designed low carbon vehicle at Easter. By the end of the year over 10,000 journeys had already been made on the AW1 service.
The launch of the AW1 bus service represents a significant investment by Urban&Civic in sustainable transport and we’ll be working with residents and those working at the Alconbury Weald Enterprise Zone to incentivise and encourage a modal shift away from private car use. As Alconbury Weald continues to grow, the regularity of the AW1 service will increase and additional services will be added.”
