Co-op became the first local convenience store at Houlton in September 2021. The opening event saw children from Houlton’s St Gabriel’s Primary School attend to cut the ribbon. In preparation for the opening of the store, the children had also created artwork for the interior fit out which is displayed for staff and customers to enjoy while they shop.
Residents can now walk to pick up their essential groceries as part of the walk to school or on their way home after work therefore reducing the number of trips to the shops or car journeys.
Since opening Co-op continue to work with the community by running campaigns to ‘buy local’ and to engage with the community and its leaders. One campaign encouraged residents to nominate individuals in the community who support community activity. Nominations came in from across Houlton and went into a prize draw to receive a hamper. Rugby’s local food bank are also set to receive regular donations through this partnership which will help those in need.
We’re delighted to provide residents with essential daily groceries and we will continue to work in partnership with the community to stock lines which are sourced locally and in demand”.
