Today marks the start of women in construction week, an initiative that enables us to recognise and celebrate women within our field.

At Urban&Civic we recognise that across the construction and development sectors, much of the industry has been male dominated, and we are actively playing our part in trying to create more gender equity. This will not happen overnight, and we are taking a multi-layered and multi-phased approach to our contribution. This includes:

  • Designing our recruitment processes to attract a diverse pool of applicants and promote equal opportunities for all.  By broadening our outreach, we aim to support a more gender‑balanced workforce across the organisation.
  • Supporting the women in the business to progress their careers with us and obtain senior roles to achieve gender equity through bespoke support, mentoring programmes and creating an inclusive culture.
  • Reaching out to the next generation of women to get their talent and skills into both our business and the wider industry we work in through outreach work with schools and other youth groups.

For a more specific portfolio across the business we also have some individual case studies below:

You can find out more about our Make Your Mark initiative encouraging the next generation of women here.

More details about our commitments to an inclusive workplace are available on our Careers page, as well as our current vacancies here.

There are more things we are working on, and we will be sharing in next year’s Annual Report, but we also welcome opportunities and ideas from other partners to help us push forward on this important work. Please do get in touch if you want to help be involved.
