We love seeing our community come together, and our Water Savers campaign is a great example of what we can achieve. At this year’s VE Day celebrations, we launched a new initiative to help everyone save water, energy, and money—just by making a few small changes at home.
We know that saving water isn’t just good for the planet—it’s good for our wallets, too. That’s why we created the Alconbury Weald Water Savers campaign. Whether it’s taking shorter showers, switching your appliances to eco mode, or using a washing-up bowl, every little step adds up. We want to make it easy for everyone to get involved, so we built a simple online calculator. With just a few clicks, you can see how much water, energy, and money you could save each month.
Hot water is something we all use every day, but heating it can be expensive. By making small changes—like using eco settings or cutting down on shower time—we can all make a real difference. Our calculator lets you pick up to three changes and shows you the impact right away. Other communities have seen great results with similar campaigns, and now it’s our turn to show what Alconbury Weald can do.
We kicked things off at the VE Day event, where the sun was shining and the community spirit was strong. Our Water Savers team shared tips, helped people try out the calculator, and handed out advice on saving water and money. Families and neighbours stopped by to chat, sign up, and pick up helpful hints for their homes.
This campaign is part of our bigger push for sustainability. We want everyone to make greener, more cost-effective choices—without giving up comfort or convenience. The best part? You don’t have to make big sacrifices. Just start with one change that works for you.
I used to do a quick thirty-minute load in the washing machine. I had no idea the eco mode was so much more efficient! It uses much less water and energy. Now I’ve switched to eco mode, I could be saving as much as £25 a month. Plus, I’m saving more by switching to the dishwasher instead of washing up by hand and having shorter showers.

Resident of Alconbury Weald
As a single-person household, Jan’s usage, and therefore savings, are a little lower than the average. But it’s still estimated to be adding up to over £35 a month — more than £420 a year.
