Urban&Civic, was joined by local stakeholders in February to help celebrate the progression of the next phase of work on the southern link road, which will form the southern gateway to the development and provide direct access to the A141 and Huntingdon.
As well as creating the southern gateway to Alconbury Weald, the £10m investment in this 2km stretch of road will establish the southern end of the main spine road through the development, which will support the new homes and Prestley Park coming forward in the second phase of the development.
Once fully complete, it will form the main route through the whole development for cars, buses, cyclists and pedestrians and connect the Ermine Street entrance of Alconbury Weald to the A141 west of Huntingdon.
The majority of the work will be carried out onsite, with the exception of the connection into the existing A141 infrastructure which is taking place September-November 2025. The southern gateway will open when the first homes in Phase 2 are delivered.
This is an important milestone for Alconbury Weald, and marks the start of the second phase of this very special new community. This route will not only ensure a safe cycle, bus and road connection between Huntingdon and Alconbury Weald, but crucially enable us to start the next phase of homes on the former Grange Farm and the delivery of the wonderful new Prestley country park for residents of Alconbury Weald and The Stukeleys, and the wider area.
